🎤How To Successfully Pitch Your Startup in Front of 15, 000 people ?🚀

Web Summit 2021/ J. Migan

The time has come! You get to pitch your startup and share your vision in front of a huge audience and the opportunity to embark your next investor in 3 minutes max.

😱Feeling nervous? No worries, here is an analysis of how Antonio Rocha from Smartex, the winner of this year’s Web Summit pitch contest did:

🙋‍♂️-TELL US WHO YOU ARE in one sentence and why your role is crucial in your startup: Antonio Rocha is a physics engineer and the Co-founder of Smartex.Ai

❌ -Make it SUPER CLEAR (as if you were talking to a 6 year-old) what problem you’re solving and how. Smartex’s mission: “using machine learning to end waste in fashion production via high-resolution cameras”

📊-Ok but...why do we care? For those who are not familiar with this issue, you then provided EASY TO UNDERSTAND AND IMPACTFUL DATA around how wasteful the fashion industry is. Here are some examples of “avoided waste” thanks to Smartex’s solution: 7 500 000 liters of water saved, 67 000 kg of fabrics saved and 150 000 kg of CO2 avoided.

📉📈-What is the CURRENT MARKET state? At the moment waste in fashion production is partially due to the fact that quality control is based on the “human eye”, which is not sufficient in terms of efficiency and traceability -Present your solution in deeper details: how Smartex’s high resolution cameras are going to provide more efficiency while not disrupting the chain of production

🚀-ACHIEVEMENTS and mid/long-term PROJECTIONS: a pitch without a little bit of “showing off” and a grand vision would not be complete otherwise!

🙋🏻👨🙋🏾👴🏻-The TEAM: few words about the key people who will help you achieve this vision

💶🤝-Your current REVENUE, PARTNERSHIPS and BUSINESS MODEL: it is so important to show forms of tractions and that you have a clear plan on how to bring revenue to your company. Smartex already has generated revenue (I forgot to write it down ), a subscription-based business model and a big list of partners/investors/customers like Gucci, Balenciaga, Vodafone Power Lab, Data Collective to name a few.

🙏-Conclusion: leave the audience restating why your startup matters and thank them for their time. In our case study, it was why waste in fashion is an important issue that concerns all of us and an invitation for the public to be more aware about it and for potential partners to team up with them.

-Last piece of advice: LESS IS MORE: yes, you can say all this in 3 minutes! The goal is not to cram every detail about your startup, the goal is to GIVE THE KEY ELEMENTS that will spark some interest and allow you to start a conversation with your future clients/investors.
